Dr. Purcell Smith, III, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and specialist in hand surgery and upper extremity surgery.
Dr. Smith is a former Chief of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Medical Center of Plano, where he has served on the hospital’s executive and ethics committees. He is also a member of the medical staff of Baylor Plano, Baylor Frisco, and Presbyterian Hospital of Plano.
Born in Fairbanks, Alaska, Dr. Smith’s family moved to Arkansas where he received his undergraduate degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Science, Dr. Smith served a residency there in orthopedic surgery. He pursued further training in hand surgery through a fellowship at the University of Florida JHM Health Center.
A member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Smith is licensed to practice medicine in both Texas and Arkansas. To keep current with new medical advances in his field, he attends frequent post-graduate continuing education courses in orthopedic injuries, especially as it relates to hand surgery. Dr. Smith and his wife, Susan, live in Plano.
