Dr. Randal Troop is an experienced orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist with Plano Orthopedics Sports Medicine and Spine Center. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery with fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. Dr. Troop completed his sports medicine fellowship in San Diego, California, where he worked with several professional athletic teams such as the San Diego Chargers, the San Diego Sockers, and the America3 yacht team for the America’s Cup.
Dr. Troop graduated magna cum laude from Baylor University with a B.S. in Biology. He received his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine where he was elected into the AOA Honor Society.
He is currently the head team physician for the Frisco Roughriders, the AA affiliate of the Texas Rangers, and is an orthopedic consultant for the Dallas Stars Hockey Club and the Texas Rangers. He has worked with multiple local schools, and has a special interest in the treatment of sports related injuries. Dr. Troop enjoys taking care of athletes from professional to recreational and returning them to play, no matter what their level of competition. Dr. Troop specializes in sports injuries including arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder.
Dr. Troop has authored several publications and has worked as an instructor at the Arthroscopy Learning Center and the Arthroscopy Association of North America Fall Course. He is a current member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Texas Sports Medicine Society, and the Texas Medical Association. He has served as the Chief and Vice Chief of the Department of Orthopedics at the Medical Center of Plano.
Dr. Troop has been honored several times by D magazine as one the “Best Doctors in Dallas” and by Texas Monthly magazine as a “Texas Super Doctor.” He and his wife, Pam, live in Plano with their 4 children, Tim, Drew, Will and Tori.
