Treating Throwing injuries of the elbow in Plano, Frisco, McKinney and AllenWhat is it?

Throwing injuries of the elbow is an injury occurs when repetitive throwing places extremely high stresses on the elbow joint. This throwing motion stretches the tendons and ligaments on the inner side of the elbow joint and typically is a gradual injury due to overuse. We often see this injury in baseball pitchers caused by the athletic movement being repeated often and during single periods of time such as practice or games. Because this motion is so frequent the body doesn’t have time to rest and heal.

Symptoms

Most of these symptoms initially cause pain during or after throwing. It can be so painful it often limits the ability to throw and causes numbness and tingling in the elbow, forearm, or hand.

Treatment

In most cases conservative treatment is all that is needed which includes rest from the activity causing the pain, physical therapy, change of throwing mechanics and anti-inflammatory medications. If symptoms are not relieved with conservative treatments surgery may be considered.
