Education & Background
Originally from West Virginia, Dr. Stastny completed his undergraduate studies at Kent State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Med/Biology with a minor in Chemistry. He then completed post-baccalaureate coursework at Ohio University before earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He completed orthopedic surgery residency at Grandview Orthopedic Surgery Residency in Ohio, where he served as Chief Resident. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in Orthopedic Surgery of the Spine at The Texas Back Institute.
Dr. Stastny offers patients contemporary spine care with an emphasis on motion preservation surgery when appropriate. His training includes specialized coursework in fracture management, spinal deformity and reconstruction techniques, pediatric orthopedics, spinal pathology, cervical and lumbar disc arthroplasty, and fusion techniques.
What sets his practice apart is a commitment to collaborative, compassionate care. He aims to listen carefully, explain options clearly, and tailor treatment—whether nonoperative care or surgery—to each patient’s goals. His focus is delivering state-of-the-art spine care in a personal, approachable setting.
Dr. Stastny participates in spine research, including work on innovative spine technologies, intraoperative conversion of lumbar total disc replacement to fusion, and management of C2 fractures. He has served as a Seattle Science Foundation Interesting Cases panelist and is active in professional organizations including:
