What is Sports Medicine?
Sports medicine deals with physical fitness by improving the body’s performance, recovering from injury, and preventing future injuries related to sports and exercise. You may be a young athlete, a high school or college athlete, a professional athlete or just a recreational athlete all of whom participate in sports for competition or fun. Almost all individuals who exercise and are active at some point in their life will have an injury due to their sport, whether minor or major.
Plano Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center is here to help you recover and get back to the sport you love.
Our goal is to effectively evaluate your injury and not only provide the best treatment options available, but also get you the fastest and safest results so you can enjoy your active lifestyle as soon as possible.
Plano Orthopedics has several doctors who are team physicians not only for local high schools but also for minor league teams. During the football season we provide a Saturday morning clinic available to all athletes in need of immediate orthopedic evaluations. We ask that you bring your insurance card and proper identification to the Saturday morning clinic for treatment.

Sports can be hard on your joints and if you have a joint problem, your surgeon may want to try an Arthroscopy (knee and shoulder scope).
This lets your surgeon see inside your joint with a small, thin camera called an “arthroscope.” It can be used on any joint, but let’s see it in the knee.
This injury is a tearing of the ACL ligament in the knee joint. The ACL ligament is one of the bands of tissue that connects the femur to the tibia. An ACL tear can be painful. It can cause the knee to become unstable.
Rotator cuff tears
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons in each shoulder. It holds your upper arm bone in your shoulder socket. It keeps your arm stable while allowing it to lift and rotate. Too much stress on the rotator cuff can cause a tear. This can be a painful injury.
Sprains & Strains
Ligaments are fibrous, elastic bands of tissue that connect and stabilize the bones. An ankle sprain is a common, painful injury that occurs when one or more of the ankle ligaments is stretched beyond the normal range of motion.
