Basal Joint Surgery: When nonsurgical treatments are no longer effective to treat basal joint osteoarthritis surgery may be an option.

Your doctor will discuss the different surgical approaches but they include: joint fusion, osteotomy, trapeziectomy, and joint replacement. Each of these procedures can be done on an outpatient basis and you can expect to wear a cast or splint over your thumb and wrist for up to 6 weeks.
