What is it?
Back pain is a symptom of a medical condition, not a diagnosis itself. Medical conditions that can cause back pain include; mechanical problems, injuries, acquired conditions and diseases, and infections and tumors. One specific area known as vertebral discs, which are the spinal column’s shock absorbers, are often a culprit of back pain. The discs cushion the vertebral bones and allow the spine to twist and bend. Vertebral discs are composed of two main parts, a soft inner nucleus and a tough fibrous outer wall. Vertebral discs can be damaged by the normal wear of aging or by traumatic injury. Problems often begin when the outer wall begin to weaken and tear.
