Biceps Tendinitis
What is it?
Biceps Tendinitis is a condition when an irritation or inflammation of the long head of the biceps tendon at the shoulder. The biceps tendon helps stabilize the humerus and aids in movements such as overhead throwing motions. In most cases, there is also other shoulder problems associated with biceps tendinitis. Typically it occurs from stress on the shoulder joint caused by repetitive overhead motion activity, such as sports like tennis or baseball, but age can also be a factor.
Symptoms
Pain is the primary symptom, especially when the arm is bent at the shoulder or the overhead motion is occurring. Other symptoms might be noticed as well; such as bruising, tenderness, swelling, and a popping or snapping sound.
Treatment
Treatment options include rest, cold compress, anti-inflammatory medications, injections, stretching exercises and physical therapy. Severe cases may require surgery.
