Shoulder Blade (Scapula) Fractures
What is it?
Shoulder Blade (Scapula) Fractures are rarely broken and accounts for less than 1% of all broken bones. However, when it’s broken it typically is caused by high-energy, blunt trauma, such as a car or motorcycle accident or a fall. In many cases when the scapula is broken other bones such as the ribs and spine are broken as well.
Symptoms
Shoulder Blade (Scapula) Fractures symptoms include severe pain especially when you move the arm, bruising and swelling, and some deformities are visible.
Treatment
In most cases Shoulder Blade (Scapula) Fractures can be treated with immobilization utilizing a sling, but if the bone shifted or fails to heal properly surgery may be required.
