The Achilles Tendon is the largest tendon in the human body and it is very important as it assists with walking, running, and jumping. The Achilles Tendon connects the calf muscle with the heel bone on the back of the foot, and although it can handle a large amount of stress, it can be susceptible to injury.

An Achilles Tendon Rupture is a tearing, whether partial or a full separation of the tendon fibers that causes the tendon to no longer be able to perform it’s normal function of the foot and ankle.

Achilles Tendon Rupture Surgery is a surgical procedure used to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon. There are two types of surgery, an open surgery and a percutaneous surgery. In both cases the surgeon sews the tendon back together through the incision helping the tendon to heal properly and restore function to the foot and ankle. If the injury or rupture has caused severe swelling the surgery may be delayed for a short period of time to allow the swelling to go down.
